Vicar Dr. Tobias Schütze has been with the Mission of Lutheran Churches since March 2023. He began his work at the Lutheran Theological Seminary (Tshwane) as a lecturer in systematic theology. Since April 2024, he has additionally been serving as a vicar in congregations of the Free Evangelical Lutheran Synod in South Africa, initially in Pretoria (Arcadia) and now in Durban (Westville). Since moving to the coastal city, he has reduced his teaching at the seminary and only teaches an intensive course on dogmatic theology. In his congregation he holds youth bible studies, confirmation classes as well as men’s bible studies and other devotional/worship services. He is also responsible for the work of the MLC in Malawi.
In 2025, he received his PhD in the field of systematic theology on the subject of church fellowship and ecumenism according to the Lutheran confessions at the University of Münster.
