Building a Church

Luke 14:23 And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.

After initially meeting in the Red Cross Hall, then at the Roman Catholic Convent and in the lounge of the newly-built parsonage, the congregation had finished its fellowship hall in 1981 on a spacious property on Ouklip Avenue in the new suburb Hutten Heights. It did not get around to build the initially also planned church building, because the influx of German speakers tapered off and the building was sufficient for its needs for four decades. With the start of services also in English, catering to a broader group, the congregation grew and needed more space. A Kindergarten was started in 2020 and it also quickly outgrew its freshly built classroom. A new member who had recently sold his house in England pledged some starter funding a befriended Christian architect offered to help with planning. In 2017 the congregation had asked the stewardship question: How can our grounds and building serve our neighbour and give glory to God better? This process produced a wish list for the property and this wish list guided us in our planning. Finalization of the plans and fund-raising are on-going (June 2025).

Who can say they’ve had the privilege of building a church in their lifetime? What we do now will serve not only us, but generations to come.

Farming God's Way

Farming God’s Way is not an organisation, but rather a tool or resource, freely available for individuals, NGO’s, mission’s or churches to be able to use to make a difference in the lives of the communities they have influence into.
