Poverty is one of the main causes of child abandonment and neglect. St Martin’s Village thus decided to implement a programme that would help alleviate poverty to reduce the number of children needing temporary safe care or foster care. The programme we adopted is called Farming God’s Way (www.farming-gods-way.org). The mission is to equip communities with the knowledge and tools they need to grow food successfully. This food can be used to sustain families, but it can also be sold to create small businesses.
We facilitate Farming God’s Way training in Newcastle and surrounds, inviting members to learn how to create gardens and plant vegetables that will provide plenty of food. If you are interested in training, please contact Pastor Thomas Beneke for more details (081 387 9152) – or follow our social media pages for updates.
The word of God says in Hosea 4:6 – “My people perish because of lack of knowledge.” At St Martin’s Village, our mission is to share knowledge and train people in God’s ways, allowing them to prosper from the land.
Living up to the example of growing food for sustainability, St Martin’s Village tends to its own vegetable farm. This farm is the training ground for many Farming God’s Way meetings and events. It also serves to feed the children and volunteers we care for. Plus, we sell our produce to raise funds for our NPO.

Our church has grown significantly over the years, and with that growth comes a new opportunity: to build a new church building. This is an exciting and humbling project. Who can say they’ve had the privilege of building a church in their lifetime? What we do now will serve not only us, but generations to come.
Farming God’s Way is not an organisation, but rather a tool or resource, freely available for individuals, NGO’s, mission’s or churches to be able to use to make a difference in the lives of the communities they have influence into.
