God’s Work in Malawi: A Report from the Workshops

This past March, I returned to Malawi for another series of workshops with the Confessional Lutheran Church Malawi Synod (CLCM). This was my third trip, and it felt more like a reunion than a visit. Familiar faces. Familiar laughter. Familiar eagerness to learn.

We taught in Blantyre, using the humble facilities of the Mulunguzi congregation. I was joined by Pastor Tobias Schütze and two faithful Malawian pastors, Maganga and Masiya, who co-led sessions in Chichewa and English.

Curriculum Focus:

  • Tobias taught on the Lutheran Confessions, helping students grasp how doctrine shapes pastoral care.
  • Pastor Maganga taught a lively session on Catechesis, filled with real-world questions from village ministry.
  • I led an intensive walk through the Gospel of Luke — exploring Jesus’ teachings with fresh eyes and local questions.

The Classroom Is the Congregation

These men don’t learn theology as an academic exercise. Every lesson connects to Sunday’s sermon, or a funeral they’ve just led, or a confirmation class back home. One student quietly said:

“This week changed how I teach. I never knew that the Small Catechism could be explained that clearly.”

That’s why this work matters.

Looking Ahead

19 students have graduated so far from our programme. Two have been recommended to attend the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Pretoria. And many are now respected preachers in their communities, offering Christ’s Word with conviction.

Thank You

To everyone who prays, supports, or sends — thank you. You are part of this work. You help bring sound teaching, Gospel clarity, and deep joy to places where the Church is alive and hungry to grow.

Keep praying for Malawi. The harvest is plentiful.
